(LOUISVILLE, KY) April 10, 2013 – Rising in the heart of downtown Louisville along the 500 and 600 blocks of South Fourth Street is a unique retail district that marks the revitalization of an area that was once Louisville’s most storied retail core. A Grand Opening celebration is slated to begin April 11 and continue through April 15, 2013.

With historic ties to retail and commerce, South Fourth Street is no longer just remnants of a once thriving retail corridor. Mid-century modern storefronts have been given a new life as exciting retail concepts are emerging. The district will be home to several locally owned businesses including: Art Eatables, a chocolatier and confectioner; Block Party Handmade Boutique, an innovative new retail and community space for local artists and entrepreneurs; Celebrations, a local retail institution offering hand crafted jewelry, candles and home fragrances, unique home accessories, and holiday gifts; The Leading Man, offering men’s dress shirts, sweaters, jackets, ties, cufflinks, and other accessories; Les Filles Louisville specializing in handcrafted artisan jewelry, handbags & accessories, and Regalo offering an eclectic mix of unique gifts and accessories, along with contemporary decor and fine art. Opening later in the summer include: Craft(s), a contemporary and traditional art gallery promoting the creative work of the hand by premium Kentucky craftspeople and regional artists and Gifthorse, offering handmade and artisanal items.

South Fourth Street will host an exclusive VIP opening and shopping event on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 5 pm to 7 pm. The evening will offer a first look at the district for Louisville’s hospitality ambassadors and the press. By invitation only, this event will celebrate an evening of food, prizes, and SWAG Bags to the first 100 people in attendance. “We feel this area offers a tremendous opportunity for Louisville’s 8.5 million tourists each year and our VIP Opening focuses on giving our hospitality ambassadors the first look at this new jewel in our city,” stated Alan DeLisle, LDDC Executive Director.

The general public is invited to the grand opening Block Party on Monday, April 15th from 11am – 2pm. Mayor Greg Fischer will be in attendance and conduct a ribbon cutting at 11:45am in front of the new retailers. The block party will take place on 4th street between Broadway and Muhammad Ali and will include entertainment by King Sonic, food specials, contests, an appearance by WVEZ Host, Vicki Rogers and an opportunity to shop and preview the new retail district.
